Praia da Galé Leste is the easternmost of the beaches that merge into one another, forming a kilometre-long area of sand, on the Algarve east of Armação de Pêra. Its fantastic swimming conditions, soft sand, good infrastructure, the several restaurants right by the beach, a wide range of water sports and the natural area to the back with intimate, smaller bays makes Praia da Galé Leste particularly popular with holidaymakers and a good choice for a varied day at the beach for young and old.
Praia da Galé Leste - Popular sandy beach with lots on offer
Leste means 'east' in Portuguese and Praia de Galé Leste is the easternmost of the beaches that lie in the long sandy bay stretching between the resorts of Armação de Pêra and Galé. The beach is very popular among holidaymakers. Many, but by no means all of them, stay in the resort of Galé, in front of which the beach is situated.
The dune landscape, which stretches around the rest of the bay, ends on Praia da Galé Leste and the wooded area and the hotel complexes draw in here, narrowing the area of light, soft sand. However, this does mean that smaller coves form on the beach, which are more intimate than the large bay. The rock formations provide shade in addition to the numerous shaded loungers that are available to hire. There are fewer visitors towards the back than at the front and it is more natural.
The bathing conditions are good and the beach has been awarded the blue flag, the quality mark for ecological and visitor-friendly beaches. There are showers and lifeguards and the beach is wheelchair accessible. There are plenty of water sports on offer thanks to a well-equipped operator. There is also a surf school, which is in great demand, especially in the winter. Three restaurants on the beach provide sustenance. The sunset, which is particularly beautiful here, is a fitting end to an all-round good day on the beach.
