Praia da Galé Oeste - Spacious sandy beach in a dune landscape
From the resort of Armação de Pêra on the Algarve, an area of fine sand stretches out to the east for several kilometres. A number of beaches lie side by side here, merging seamlessly into one another. An environmentally protected dune landscape runs along the back of them. The beach of Praia da Galé Oeste can be found almost at the very end of this stretch of coast. Only its neighbouring beach, Praia da Galé Leste, lies further east. Oeste means 'west' in Portuguese and Leste means 'east'.
From the car park a wooden walkway leads through the dunes to Praia da Galé Oeste beach. The long approach is wheelchair accessible and you can enjoy a beautiful view over the dunes, the beach and the sea. Before you get onto the beach, the path leads you past a really fantastic beach bar, with small snacks, delicious drinks and a convivial terrace. We particularly recommend that you try the Mojito, which is prepared with a great deal of care.
The beach of Praia da Galé Oeste is extensive and there are a few sun loungers shaded with beach umbrellas, which you can hire. However, the majority of visitors lie on the fine, soft sand and bring their own sunshade with them. Lots of families come here and a large number, but by no means all of them, are holidaymakers from the neighbouring hotels. In the summer months there are lifeguards in situ and the bathing conditions are good, but water sports play no great role here. If you want more action on the beach and in the sea, you should carry on to the neighbouring beach, Praia da Galé Leste.
