Praia da Oura - On the go on the golden beach
Praia da Oura is one of the most popular beaches in Albufeira. You might not find any gold here, but a visit could well be worth its weight in gold. If you like beaches with great service and a good entertainment factor, this is just the place for you. On the way here you'll pass lots of shops and cafés. If you left anything behind as you rushed out of the house, you can buy beach equipment like sun cream and lilos here.
At the entrance to the beach there is a string of restaurants and cafés. Waiters stand at the ready outside them, touting their cuisine. If you're not quick enough you'll get caught by one of the many beach vendors, who will try to press selfie sticks, hats or sunglasses on you. Their amusing sales patter gives passers-by a few laughs!
If you can manage to steer clear of a sales pitch, just a couple of flights of steps lie between you and the beach, which is surrounded by a low rock face. The first thing you'll notice are the large number of yellow and orange sun umbrellas, which take up a sizeable area of the sand and underneath which you can find shade from the midday sun. If you're looking for a little more privacy, you can head to the western end. It's a bit quieter here than in the lively centre of the beach.
Plenty of entertainment awaits in the water, where you can sit on a floating sofa and be pulled across the Atlantic waves. A banana boat does the rounds just off shore too, throwing people into the sea. In the evenings some of the bars transform into clubs and you can dance till you drop to the latest hits and chart music.
