Praia dos Salgados - Pleasant sandy beach amid dunes and lagoons
On the Portuguese Algarve there are a number of beaches that stretch for several kilometres from the town of Armação de Pêra as far as Galé. Praia dos Salgados is one of them. Its western neighbour is Praia Grande and to the east it merges into Praia da Galé Oeste. An environmentally protected dune landscape runs along behind most of this area. Beyond the dunes at Praia dos Salgados, next to a golf resort, is a lake called Lagoa dos Salgados, and part of the lagoon landscape stretches right down to the beach.
If you would prefer not to walk across the adjacent beaches to get to Praia dos Salgados, you can follow the signs to the golf resort, which will take you to the car park, from where a broad footpath leads to the beach. You’ll pass a nice beach restaurant serving delicious and fairly sophisticated dishes. This has an integrated kiosk and a terrace with a beautiful view of the beach and the sea.
Once you reach the sand there is a wooden footbridge leading to left and right. Unfortunately there is a bit of a gap between the path and the footbridge, so the beach can't be said to be wheelchair accessible. The footbridge runs all the way along the beach to the left, where there are several areas with lounger and sun umbrella rental, a snack shack, a massage pavilion and a stand operated by a congenial water sports operator. Here you can get jet skis, boards for stand up paddling and pedal boats, which you can use in the area set apart for water sports.
The water at Praia dos Salgados beach is very clean and ideal for swimming. There are lifeguards to ensure your safety. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag, an accolade indicating a safe and pleasant beach. If you prefer getting around on land to venturing into the water, you can walk for miles to the neighbouring beaches and into the dunes. Praia dos Salgados beach is a firm favourite with families and with visitors to the golf resort, but we would also recommend it to anyone who would like to spend a pleasant day at the beach in a beautiful landscape.
