The spacious dune beach Praia Grande lies east of the popular bathing resort of Armação de Pêra. A boardwalk takes you across the flat dune landscape and past two natural wetland areas, where you can watch rare water birds. At Mario's kiosk in the middle of the beach you can buy refreshments in the form of cold drinks and snacks. Both east and west of the kiosk you will find ample seclusion and privacy. Praia Grande lies between two popular tourist beaches. We recommend it as a haven of peace on this stretch of the coastline.
Praia Grande - A spacious, natural dune beach with plenty of privacy
Praia Grande beach extends over two kilometres of the southern section of the Algarve coast. This long, wide sandy beach, which adjoins two wetland areas, lies east of the popular bathing resort Armação de Pêra.
A wide boardwalk takes you from one of the two parking areas behind the beach across the dune landscape formed by the wetland areas. From there you will have a glorious view over this very special natural landscape, which, by the way, is home to significant populations of several species of water bird.
Apart from a small beach kiosk, Praia Grande beach is completely natural and unspoiled. You are sure to be able to find a quiet spot on its spacious surface. The beach lies between two popular and busy tourist beaches, in comparison with which it offers plenty of privacy and seclusion. Naturists, families, couples and singles who just want to switch off for a while will feel very much at home here. In addition to visitors from Great Britain and France, lots of Portuguese from Lisbon and other towns and cities like coming here to spend a relaxing day at the beach.
The Praia Grande Nascente de Pêra beach kiosk is owned by Mario, who will give you friendly service when you go to buy cold drinks, snacks and ice cream. He made the pretty white sun loungers with their sun sails himself and prefers renting them out for extended time periods. In peak season a lifeguard takes care of your safety. From July and August onwards Praia Grande is particularly popular with windsurfers.
