Barrinha - A little piece of paradise
If you take the bridge from Faro, you will come across a very natural beach. Barrinha is hidden on the Peninsula do Ancão. As you walk here across the elevated terrain you have a view over a large lake area and can watch fishermen at work.
At this point you'll still be bumping into plenty of people, but most will be heading to Praia da Faro, a beach that has lots of visitors. Only a few carry on to look for the peninsula’s hidden treasures. The destination is a real reward though. Even on the walk to Barrinha you're surrounded by the beauty of nature. The vegetation of the dune landscape provides food and shelter for many different species of bird.
On the beach you will find white sand with clear water lapping at the shore in a vivid shade of turquoise. The sun's rays play with the clear colours, making the surface shimmer a brilliant shade of sapphire. If you're looking for a retreat, this is just the place – a setting where you can draw peace and strength from the magic of untouched nature.
It's well worth the long walk because it's rare to find such an unspoiled spot. Remember to stock up on provisions and take plenty of water with you because you'll lose track of time and space here. Barrinha allows you to get back to nature, leave the noise and frenzy of civilisation behind you and plunge into paradise.
