Summary of the Beach Inspectors

The small beach of Praia da Angrinha extends along the bank of Rio Arade opposite the harbour in the town of Portimão. A small fort that was built on a rock and the silhouetted buildings of Portimão are what shape the scene on this beach. It's mainly locals that come here, looking for a spot away from the tourists where they can soak up the sun undisturbed in a laid-back atmosphere. The beach offers no amenities, but a short footpath brings you to a little fishing village with small shops, cafés and restaurants.

Praia da Angrinha - Non-touristy beach with a view over the harbour of Portimão

You can't ignore the dull noise of engines at this beach in southern Portugal, as it is situated on the bank of Rio Arade and the river’s estuary is home to the harbour of Portimão. Against the silhouette of the densely populated town, small boats jet across the water and large sailing yachts glide out towards the open sea. The two piers nearby shelter the beach from large waves and strong currents.

Praia da Angrinha is not one of the busiest beaches in the Algarve and its charm comes from its ambience, which is not at all touristy. It is easily accessible by car - the beach is just four kilometres from Portimão's town centre. On the undeveloped expanse immediately behind the beach you'll find a large car park. Even in summer Praia da Angrinha is not crowded. It's mainly families and younger and older couples who live locally that come here looking for a relaxed atmosphere. Some bring a fishing rod and go fishing right on the beach. Dogs are also allowed on this beach. There are no sun loungers, showers or toilets, nor any other kind of infrastructure.

The beach is bordered at the southern end by a rocky outcrop, on which the small fortress Forte de São João do Arade is situated. It marks the boundary between Praia da Angrinha and Praia Grande, the beach that lies behind Praia da Agrinha. However it's not possible to get there on foot from this location. To the north a short path brings you to the little fishing village of Ferragudo. There you will find some shops, small restaurants and cafés.
