Praia da Armação de Pêra - Beautiful urban beach with lots on offer and plenty of space
Praia de Armação de Pêra beach lies in the popular holiday resort of Armação de Pêra, on the south coast of the Algarve. The sandy beach, which is over one kilometre long, is bordered at the western end by the very rugged and verdant cliffs that are typical of the region. To the back there is a slightly elevated promenade, behind which the streets and alleys of Armação de Pêra, with their numerous restaurants, bars, shops and accommodation, begin. At the eastern end, on the outskirts of the resort, the area of sand opens up inland and becomes considerably wider before the mouth of Ribeira de Alcantarilha forms the natural border with the neighbouring beach.
The spacious beach of Praia da Armação de Pêra provides plenty of choices of where and how to settle down, whether it's on the fine sand, on the loungers that are set out and available for hire in a number of places, or between the rocks, which provide shade here and there. The gently sloping access to the clean water is comfortable underfoot in most places - only occasionally are there stones and rocks. Lifeguards aren't on duty across the whole beach, but they do monitor large zones that are marked out with signs.
There are two water sports operators on Praia da Armação de Pêra beach and between them they offer a broad range of activities. A few beach bars and restaurants serve a wide selection of meals, snacks and drinks right down on the beach. One restaurant quickly transforms into a club in the evenings and is well-known as a party hot-spot. During the day, young and old have lots of fun on Praia da Armação de Pêra beach, and as well as the good infrastructure, a children's play area ensures that both children and their parents will feel at home here and can have a thoroughly enjoyable day.
