Praia de Albandeira - Romantic natural bay popular with families
Praia de Albandeira beach is situated a few kilometres west of Carvoeiro on the south coast of the Algarve. This roughly 80 metre long sandy beach is divided into two sections by a rocky promontory, with the left part being larger than the right. Access to the beach is via a wooden footbridge and a set of steps that lead across the promontory. You'll also find a beach bar here with a terrace where you can consume cool drinks and tasty dishes with a beautiful view.
Apart from the promontory, Praia de Albandeira beach is encircled by a spectacular, pitted cliff face where you can find marine fossils embedded in many places. The cliff's caves and rock spurs also provide privacy and shade, and visitors like to make the most of this. However there is a risk of falling rocks in front of the cliff so you should look for a place to lie at a safe distance.
There are lots of peaceful and romantic spots in the bay, where you can bank on a bit of privacy. Around the rocks small, natural swimming pools form, which are an equally good place to make yourselves comfortable. You can also explore the caves in the bay, although you can only get to them on foot at low tide. If you're prepared to take a long walk around the bay you can jump off the cliffs into the sea.
