Praia da Manta Rota - Relaxation in an almost unending expanse of sand
The temperature of the water attracts countless people to this beach in summer, because in comparison to lots of other resorts on the Algarve, the Atlantic is relatively mild here. Vast, low-lying dunes border the huge area of sand inland, separating the beach from the holiday town of Manta Rota.
The popular Praia da Manta Rota beach is in the eastern part of the Algarve and lies 13 kilometres from Tavira. It's easy to get to by car because there are signs that direct you through the resort, bringing you to a large car park. A long boardwalk leads across the dunes to the beach. Praia da Manta Rota is part of a section of coast that is characterised by its long, broad strips of sand. It flows seamlessly into Praia da Cacela Velha beach to the west and Praia da Alagoa beach to the east.
Although Praia da Manta Rota has lots of visitors in peak season, you'll always find plenty of space to spread out your towel or play beachball on the wide area of sand, although there is no volleyball net or water sports operator and there are no other particular facilities for sports fans.
On parts of Praia da Manta Rota there are sun loungers and beach umbrellas, which you can hire for the day. Lifeguards keep an eye on safety all year round and you will also find toilets and showers here. The beach is particularly popular with the Portuguese, who like to come here for a relaxing day by the sea. The crowd is extremely mixed and includes both families, and singles and couples of all ages.
At the back of the beach you will find several small kiosks where you can buy items such as drinks and ice creams. Two restaurants with large terraces can be reached via the boardwalk that leads across the dunes to the town. One of them serves premium dishes at high prices and is distinguished by its exclusive ambience with white linen sunshades. There are also a few stalls near the beach where you can buy everything you need for a day at the seaside, from bikinis to lilos.
Another highlight can be found in a large marquee at the edge of the resort behind the dunes - when the sun has set and beach activities are done for the day, party-goers flock to Manta Beach Club and dance into the early hours.
