Praia da Rocha - One of the best known beaches in Portugal
When a beach is so well-known, there must be a good reason for it. It's not easy to stand out amongst the unique variety on the Algarve and yet Praia da Rocha manages to keep attracting new people over and over again. The main beach of Portimão is top of the list for many when it comes to holiday planning.
You'll probably know the beach's rocks from postcards and travel guides. You can get here by walking along the bustling mile by the harbour. At Praia da Rocha you step onto fine sandy terrain with a special atmosphere. You'll have to share part of the beach with the loungers of the neighbouring hotel, but there's so much space that it's not disruptive. Allow yourself time for a long walk to the natural, unspoiled areas of the beach.
Along the ochre-coloured cliffs you come to some less busy areas. On the way you can admire interesting rock arches and formations. The relief tells its own unique story and with a little luck you'll find a place to retreat in the shade of the cliff face. The shimmering turquoise sea promises hours of swimming and bathing pleasure.
The infrastructure is very prominent. Numerous paths lead from the Avenida directly to Praia da Rocha. Along the coast there are lots of establishments serving typical regional delicacies, and restaurants with more sophisticated flair. Here you can not only sample delicious dishes, but also listen to bands playing live music after sunset.
