Praia de Novo Forto is a classic urban beach. We only recommend it if you're staying in Quarteira. Otherwise it's not worth planning a day at the beach here. The water is not as clear as at other beaches and there is litter in the sand. But if that doesn't bother you, you can spend a few pleasant hours here. You can fortify yourself in the family-run restaurant. Use the on-site pool if the sea breeze gets too strong.
Praia de Forte Novo - Nice but not a must
There are hundreds of beaches that emblazon themselves on the memory. Unique bays, which you remember with fondness. Special bathing spots that should definitely be on your to-do list. On the Algarve there are so many beaches that bring a smile to your face or leave you reeling in admiration. In between them you will find examples from the 'reasonably average' category.
Praia de Novo Forto is neither especially beautiful, nor abysmally ugly. If you're in Quarteira there's no reason not to come here. You can even have a lively day here. This typical urban beach has its advantages and disadvantages.
It's not difficult to find a spot on the 650 metre long area. The water is blue, but not as sparkling or clear as in other places. Unfortunately there is litter here alongside the natural residues. Cigarette butts are stuck in the sand and there is packaging lying around. It's not too noticeable but it does mar the overall impression of Praia de Forte Novo.
The place scores a few points for the food. Forte Novo Restaurant at the entrance has been run by a friendly family for decades. On the menu you'll find regional dishes and fish specialities. The restaurant even has its own singer, who provides background music at the keyboard. You can swim in the neighbouring pool if the waves are too strong.
