Praia da Figueira - An unspoiled dream beach with lots of space and peace
When the midday sun is high in the sky the ocean water sparkles like diamonds on the fantastically beautiful Praia da Figueira. As your gaze sweeps over the small, unspoiled bay it makes your heart soar.
The gentle arc of almost white sand blends into the brilliantly clear bright blue of the Atlantic, which in turn gradually gives way to the dark blue of the deep sea, only to be reunited with the light on the distant horizon.
The large, secluded sandy beach of Praia da Figueira is a real insider's tip on Portugal's south coast. Only a few visitors stray here, although the journey is not too difficult. From Lagos it takes about half an hour. Once you've parked your car, you have to walk almost a kilometre through a beautiful natural landscape with flourishing fig and olive trees. A small swamp shows you that you have arrived at your destination.
At the foot of the limestone formations, overgrown with pines, you can listen to the gentle murmur of the waves on Praia da Figueira. Despite the strong wind, the water is exceptionally calm. Perhaps it's trying to match the mood on shore, where there are no disruptive tourist facilities. The few visitors here are mainly young couples. Locals and tourists alike appreciate the quiet romance of this natural jewel.
