Praia das Cabanas - A special island beach
If you feel like spending a day in a unique place, you should make a note of Ilha de Cabanas. Here, out on the ocean, you will find a beach that is part of the impressive conservation area Ria Formosa. The special location and the extraordinary landscape make this place a real one-off.
It has evolved with the tides, the wind and the currents and is one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal. Part of the lagoon system is the island of Cabanas. You can get to Cabanas beach by boat and these depart at regular intervals.
In the seemingly narrow strip of sand there's plenty to discover. Even if you haven't packed sunscreen, you don't need to worry about sunburn because there are numerous loungers and beach umbrellas available to hire.
A restaurant and a bar have also been established on the small island. These buildings should not be overlooked. If the journey has made you hungry you can buy small snacks to take away or indulge in a hot meal.
Enjoy your time on the small island. If you take a walk across the sand you can see the sea on both sides. It's rare to be as close to the forces of nature as you are here. Feel the warm sun on your skin and bathe in clear blue water. Don't forget to keep an eye on the time though so you don't miss the last boat back to the mainland.
