Playa Los Álamos - Typical town beach for families and party animals
Playa Los Álamos is situated not far from Málaga airport in the Andalusian tourist stronghold of Torremolinos. The beach has greyish sand which can get very hot, especially in sunshine. So we recommend that you consider taking flip-flops along – or, if you are quite sensitive, you could even take closed shoes.
To the east Playa Los Álamos borders Playa de Campo de Golf and the golf course from which the latter beach derives its name. In the area in between you will find typical Spanish chiringuitos, beach restaurants and bars where you can treat yourself to some local food. If you're a fish-lover you should try the espetos - anchovies on wooden skewers, cooked on a grill that looks like a boat.
Close by you will also find one of the two water sports operators, who can kit you out for stand up paddling (usually just called SUP), rent you a kayak or give you lessons in windsurfing. In fact, because of its very strong winds, this beach is well-known as an excellent place, not only for windsurfing, but for kitesurfing as well. However, aficionados of this sport were disappointed when it was banned this year, though it is hoped that next year the ban will be lifted.
The further you go from the golf course, the younger the beach crowd. You'll notice a difference in the chiringuitos, too, as there are fewer restaurants and more beach bars and clubs. This is where party animals really come into their own. The high point of the party season is the annual Los Álamos Beach Festival including a DJ contest, where you definitely won't suffer from boredom.
The only fly in the ointment is the airport mentioned above. If you were hoping to relax in peace and quiet here you'll be disappointed. Aircraft fly over your head at a rate of one a minute. Despite this the beach is a firm favourite, not only with night revellers, but also with families. This is because Playa Los Álamos has all the advantages of a typical town beach, not to mention the gentle slope down to the water and even a childrens' play area.
