Playa Ancha - vast sandy beach with several facets
The vast beach of Playa Ancha spreads out in front of a tranquil holiday home settlement to the south-west of Estepona. Colourful sun umbrellas are stuck into the fine, grey sand, holidaymakers relax in folding chairs and the fresh Mediterranean water laps on the shore.
Playa Ancha is situated 20 kilometres from Estepona on an almost completely built-up section of the Costa del Sol. The large coastal road runs just a few metres behind the settlement, making it very easy to reach by car. You will find places to park in the surrounding streets.
Even in peak season this beach is not overcrowded. It is particularly popular with people from the surrounding towns and villages, as well as holidaymakers from all over the country. It's mainly families that come here to relax and cool off in the sea. Despite this it's not difficult to find a spot where you can enjoy peace and quiet on Playa Ancha beach.
For sports fans the beach has both a volleyball net in the sand and a small fitness trail. There is also a kiosk and two restaurants serving Andalusian dishes, which include fresh fish.
To the north there are a few rocks in the water and the beach changes from sandy to stony underfoot. There are far fewer people here than on the rest of the beach so it is even more peaceful.
