Playa de la Rada - families will really get their money's worth here
An old boat made of whitewashed wooden planks is filled to the brim with sand, on which a small fire blazes. Around the flames are little skewers of sardines, cooking slowly in the heat. It may be a long time since fishermen from Estepona smoked their catch right on the boat, but the traditional cooking method hasn't been forgotten to this day. In most of the restaurants located directly on the urban beach of Playa de la Rada it's hard to imagine not grilling on the fishing boat.
Playa de la Rada is characterised by the silhouette of the buildings of the large holiday resort of Estepona. Near the fishing harbour you will also find a few small factory buildings from the days when the place lived exclusively from the fishing trade. Apart from these, nowadays there are lots of hotels and buildings with holiday apartments lined up behind the spacious sandy beach.
The beach facilities include showers and toilets, as well as lifeguards, who are on duty to ensure safety. Estepona beach is a popular holiday destination, particularly for families. Not only do they find it very convenient because of the excellent amenities, it also has plenty of leisure activities for the kids. There are several play areas, trampolines, climbing frames, a basketball court and a small fitness trail. A number of water sports operators hire out pedal boats, amongst other things, and provide action in the form of sofa rides.
