The town of Fuengirola is located on the Spanish Mediterranean coast and together with the neighbouring towns of Benalmádena and Torremolinos forms the most popular region for a beach holiday on the Costa del Sol. Fuengirola is well connected, being close to Andalusia's largest airport in Málaga, about 30 minutes away by train or by car. This is appreciated by the visitors from northern European countries who come here to escape the cold winters or to enjoy a summer holiday with reliably hot weather.
Tourism plays an important role in Fuengirola. There are numerous hotels and apartments here and along the 10-kilometre long promenade can be found countless restaurants, bars and chiringuitos (beach bars) next to one another. Here you will find over seven kilometres of fine sandy beaches with good facilities, plenty of sun-loungers and parasols and a wide range of water-sports activities. There are options for motorised water-sports and there are also excursions on offer at the beautiful marina of Fuengirola. Many other possibilities for day-trips and leisure activities are provided in the neighbouring towns, with golf courses in Mijas, hiking trails and theme parks in Benalmádena, marinas and the old town in Marbella, and much, much more.
However, Fuengirola is more than just a holiday resort. With more than 77,000 inhabitants, around a quarter of whom are foreign (mainly from the UK and Scandinavia), and a high population density, the town is international and lively, with a very individual character. You should stroll through the typical Andalusian old town around the Plaza de la Constitución with its narrow alleyways that open out into wide squares, browse in the shops to find clothes and souvenirs and go for a bite to eat in the tapas bars. Visit the Tuesday market with its colourful offerings, one of the most largest markets on the Costa del Sol. Do not miss the landmark of the town, the Sohail castle, located on the beach of Fuengirola towards Marbella. Above all though, enjoy a few relaxing days on the beach, you have earned it.
