Playa La Chullera - relax on your lounger or in the shade of the bushes
It's one of the largest and most peaceful beaches on the coast between Marbella and Gibraltar. No huge crowds of visitors, no miles of restaurants or massive hotels. It's true that behind the wide expanse of sand there's a handful of holiday apartment buildings, but the gardens laid out in front of them have a pleasing effect on the overall scene. What’s more, there are trees and shrubs growing here and there on the beach, which create a delightful environment and provide shade on sunny days.
The long beach of Playa La Chullera is about 15 kilometres from the holiday resort of Estepona. Its northern end adjoins the small town of El Castillo de la Duquesa, where you will find free parking at the side of the road, just a few steps from the beach. Right in front of the apartment complexes a small promenade, with seats and lots of greenery, accompanies the beach for most of its length. Roughly in the centre of the beach a campsite runs down to the edge of the sand.
The distinctive feature of Playa La Chullera is its exceptionally relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. Families and older couples come here to relax in the sun and enjoy the view of the Mediterranean. Playa La Chullera has a surface of coarse-grained sand interspersed with pebbles in places. It is noted for the transparently clear water that gently laps the shore. The beach gives the impression of being well-cared-for and is cleaned daily. The amenities include toilets and showers. Dotted around the beach you'll find several chiringuitos with shady and inviting terraces right on the sand. The bars are not just simple snack shacks, but are more in the way of convivial restaurants with a fabulous view out to sea. They specialise in serving local dishes and cocktails at prices that are standard for the region.
