Playa del Alicate is situated around two kilometres east of Marbella in the resort of Alicate, which is mainly made up of villas and hotels. The beach is reached through the dunes, which ensure that you will hardly notice the many houses in the background. You almost feel as though you are on a natural, unspoiled beach. The many restaurants and beach bars serve delicious, typical regional and international cuisine, which you can enjoy on one of their sun loungers or sun beds. For the sports enthusiasts among you, they also hire out boards for stand-up paddle boarding and canoes.
Playa del Alicate - narrow beach that can do more than you'd think
Playa del Alicate is an almost two kilometre long sand and pebble beach in front of the gates of Marbella on the Costa del Sol. It is situated in the settlement of Alicate, which can most definitely be described as exclusive. A few celebrities live here - one of them is Antonio Banderas, who has a villa right by the beach. Not least for this reason, Playa del Alicate is very touristy.
The beach borders a dune landscape, thanks to which you will hardly notice the large number of villas and hotels on the other side, and the surrounding area appears almost unspoiled if you don't lift your gaze. You also have to walk through the dunes to get to the sea from the car park. Most of the restaurants are situated here, somewhat hidden unless you're standing right in front of them.
At just 25 metres the beach is quite narrow, which means that especially in peak season, you have to lie towel to towel. There's little space for privacy here.
The numerous restaurants and beach bars serve traditional Spanish and international cuisine and hire out boards for stand-up paddle boarding (SuP for short) as well as loungers and beach beds. If you don't want to leave your shady spot under the beach umbrella you can buy food from the beach vendors, who come round with tasty little treats at regular intervals.
Playa del Alicate is more suitable for calmer types of water sports that the whole family can enjoy, like pedal boat rides, canoeing or stand-up paddle boarding, because there are hardly any big waves and the wind isn't very strong.
