Playa El Ancón - extensive but narrow sandy beach with a promenade, for relaxation and sports fans
Playa El Ancón on the Costa del Sol is situated in a development that goes by the same name, a few kilometres from the town centre of Marbella. It is slightly over a kilometre long and is quite narrow at most points.
The Paseo Maritime, a beach promenade well suited to sporting activities, runs the whole length of the beach. Here you'll encounter lots of joggers, cyclists and other people using various lightweight means of transport. There's a fitness trail here too, where you can flex your muscles in the fresh air.
But action is the order of the day in the water as well as on land. The water sports operator will rent you a small catamaran, a kayak or a stand up paddle board. If you fancy it, they'll even fetch the banana boat or sofa boat from the neighbouring beach, so that you can be towed across the water and test your strength like that. It looks quite straightforward, but it's actually really hard work holding on so that you don't get thrown off.
For everyone else the name of the game is: relax! As this beach is never really full, which may well have something to do with the less than ideal parking situation, you'll have plenty of space and can relax in peace and quiet. At the best-known beach bar in the area, Victor’s Beach, you can indulge in cooling drinks with a choice of delicious local cuisine or international dishes – it's up to you! During the daytime you can enjoy the view of the sea and the easy-going atmosphere, and when evening comes you can dance the night away at one of the regular parties.
