Summary of the Beach Inspectors

Playa de Maro is a natural family beach with good infrastructure, which generally has lots of visitors in peak season. It is situated on the east coast of Andalusia, around 10 minutes from the historical small tourist town of Nerja. Enclosed by rock formations overgrown with diverse plants, here you can settle down on a mixture of grey sand and small pebbles. A beach bar provides tasty dishes and loungers for hire, and there is kayaking if you want to get active. Lots of local families like Playa de Maro because there is a lifeguard keeping an eye on bathers' safety.

Playa de Maro - a natural bathing bay for families holidaying in Nerja and the surrounding area

Playa de Maro nestles in the Andalusian hills around ten minutes' drive east of Nerja. This popular bathing bay on the Costa del Sol is enclosed by a natural stony coastline and bordered by rocks on both sides.

The route here leads you past the settlement of Maro, which is a little further inland. Playa de Maro is well signposted and you can park your car just a few minutes along the access road to the beach. From there you have a magnificent view of the beautiful natural bay.

Before you lies a 150 metre long, dark, sandy beach, interspersed with small pebbles. This fairly small area has plenty to offer. At the back of the beach you will find several wooden cabins, housing a beach bar, a restaurant and public toilets. You can hire a comfy beach lounger here too. At Playa de Maro you'll also find a water sports operator, Salamandra multi-aventura, specialising in kayaks. Here you can book a guided kayak tour or simply strike out on your own. Crystal-clear water and a diverse underwater world make Playa de Maro interesting for divers as well. You'll need to bring your own equipment and it's best just to pack a snorkel.

Lifeguards ensure your safety in the water. This is quite a task because the many bathers at Playa de Maro take great pleasure in splashing around in the warm Mediterranean water. Local families in particular appreciate the fantastic facilities in the beautiful, natural bay of Maro.
