Playa de la Cala del Moral - a spacious bathing beach with lots of features
At Playa de la Cala del Moral you will find yourselves on a mixture of dark sand and pebbles. The one and a half kilometre long bathing beach is situated almost 30 minutes east of Málaga on the Andalusian Costa del Sol.
It has an average width of around 40 metres and a few special features. In the east there is a beautifully designed viewing platform with several pieces of sports equipment that encourage you to take some free exercise. The surface of this section of the beach consists mainly of sand and is regularly swept and raked. Only a few palm trees and the lifeguards’ station interrupt the horizon. A tall cliff, on which beautiful white houses are built, towers in the background.
At the back of this popular beach stretches a long promenade. On it you will find several excellent chiringuitos and restaurants, which will enhance your day's bathing with specialities direct from the grill and a relaxed atmosphere. The promenade continues past lush grassy areas for sunbathing under palm trees, fleets of little fishing boats that lie waiting on the dry sand and comfy loungers, sun beds and pedal boats that are available for bathers. It's also part of a nice coastal walking trail, which leads all the way to Málaga (10 kilometres).
Before that, though, you come to the western section of Playa de la Cala del Moral. The beach gets narrower and narrower as you approach the broad, dried up mouth of Rio Totalán. In summer the dry riverbed is used as a parking area. Here, where the promenade ends, the last section of the extensive beach begins. This is a good 300 metres long, features a significantly stonier surface and is earmarked for dogs. Four-legged friends will find plenty of room to run about, have a good sniff round and enjoy life in this big space.
Playa de la Cala del Moral is particularly suitable for families with children because it has a relaxed atmosphere, lots of space, good services and entertainment and activities on offer for all ages. As well as a canoe and pedal boat hire centre it has several play areas and a small, floating water park.
