Playa de Torre del Mar - A three kilometre long tourist magnet on the Costa del Sol
Playa de Torre del Mar is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the Costa del Sol in Andalusia. This wide sandy beach, which is around 40 minutes from Málaga, stretches out over a length of more than three kilometres. It is situated in the resort of Torre del Mar, which is populated with holidaymakers from France, Italy and Spain in the summer months. The restaurants along the large promenade, which is lined densely with trees, are just as diverse. At night the centre of the popular holiday resort becomes a bustling crowd of people.
From there you only have to cross the street and you'll find yourselves at the beach, where a richly diverse landscape awaits. The surface consists of fine, grey sand and small pebbles. If you stroll along the beautiful promenade you will discover several fishing boats lying on the dry sand. A number of water sports operators await your visit with pedal boats, stand-up paddle boards, canoes and surfing equipment. The numerous beach umbrella and lounger hire centres can be reached easily on wooden walkways. Between them is a tall wooden tower, from which a lifeguard keeps an eye on things. Play areas, fitness trails, and even a little amusement park with a carousel and other attractions will delight everyone, not only the little ones. You can see the large, blue lighthouse from a distance.
At the back of the beach you'll find lots of colourfully painted toilet blocks and nice chiringuitos at regular intervals. During the day the many verdant palm islands serve as comfy, shaded beach beds for bathers. At night some families spread out their folding furniture and picnic baskets here and dine under the starry sky. They aren't bothered by the large number of passers-by who are out for a stroll. Along the promenade you will find nice little parks, patios where flamenco music is played and danced to, and free dance events. A summer night market also takes place regularly at Playa de Torre del Mar.
This vast family beach has lots of visitors, especially in the summer months. However to the east and west you will still find some peace and natural scenery. The port area of Puerto de la Caleta de Vélez adjoins the jetty that borders the beach to the west. To the east the beach promenade runs into a natural dune landscape. Here you will find the exceptional Café del Mar, which will sweeten your day on the beach with cocktails, food and entertainment in a stylish setting.
