Jebel Ali Open Beach - Remote hotspot for kite-surfing
Jebel Ali Open Beach is situated south of Dubai in the direction of Abu Dhabi and is about 30 minutes from the district of Dubai Marina. The beach can only be reached by car and is not very well signposted and therefore rather difficult to find. It is best to always follow the signposting to the nearby Jebel Ali Golf Resorts & Spa.
The beach is between the Lama Beach Club and the private beach of the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa, both of which charge an entry fee. Jebel Ali Open Beach is free of charge but in contrast to the two private beaches has no amenities such as toilets or showers. There are also no restaurants here and you will therefore need to bring your own food and drink.
Jebel Ali Open Beach is especially popular with windsurfers and kite-surfers as the wind conditions are perfect, although at the beach itself there are no water-sports outlets. Locals, however, like to come here to go wild with their own jet-skis.
It can get can rather loud here when there are a lot of motorised water-sports activities going on. In the afternoons the currents are stronger and because of the amount of water-sport enthusiasts in the water it is advisable not to swim too far out into the sea.
The beach is also suitable for those who like things a little quieter. Families gather at the beach with their jeeps and campervans to have a BBQ, camp or play baseball. Barbecues, camping and dogs are actually officially banned at this nice beach, but are generously tolerated here.
You should also note that, because of cultural traditions, bikinis are only tolerated at the beach and not anywhere else.
