Flat rocks divide the sandy beach of Playa Tanga into several smaller areas and in the background is a vast dune landscape. This is a beach with the emphasis on relaxation in natural surroundings. The soft sand and the shallow turquoise-coloured sea create a great, Caribbean style setting. Nestled in the dunes is a restaurant where you can spoil yourself with local culinary delights. Otherwise there are no other buildings at Playa Tanga, but in parts of the beach there are sun-loungers and parasols and there are lifeguards on duty here.
Playa Tanga - Oasis of calm on the north-east coastLow dunes, a wide stretch of fine sand and the open sea - Playa Tanga is one of the more spacious beaches which characterise the north of Formentera. It is only four kilometres away from the harbour town of La Savina and from there can easily be reached in only a few minutes by car or scooter. The beach is situated in a conservation area and therefore you have to pay a small fee. The car park is directly behind the restaurant, which is set back in the dunes and therefore hardly visible from the beach. A wooden pathway leads over the vegetation of the dunes to the sand.
On the long stretch of coast in the north of Formentera one beach leads into the next and it is not always possible to say where one ends and the next one begins. In the south Playa Tanga is bordered by the beach of the holiday resort of Es Pujols and to the north of it is Playa Llevant. There are plenty of places to spread out here and lifeguards are on duty for your safety. As with most of the other beaches on the island, Playa Tanga appeals to tourists with its very shallow turquoise-coloured sea. The dunes provide natural shelter from the wind and in the summer months a volleyball net is put up here.
With its specialities of paella and fresh fish, the Tanga restaurant has been nestled in the dunes at this beach for over 40 years. From here you can admire the sea and feel the soft sand under your feet.
