Summary of the Beach Inspectors
The remote Playa de Junquillo beach is situated on the western coast of Fuerteventura and the route to it is worth the effort on its own. The surrounding area is ideal for walking and cycling and the spectacular cliffs are an excellent subject for photographers. However, swimming is not recommended because of the protruding rocks and the strong currents. The deserted bunker gives a bit of a haunted atmosphere to the beach. If, however, you are looking for a peaceful, idyllic hideaway a safe distance from the tourist masses, then Junquillo is just the place for you.

Playa de Junquillo - Rugged, remote rocky bay on the western coast of Fuerteventura

The Junquillo bay is situated about one hour from Antigua. On the way there along a winding road you can admire the beautiful cliffs of the western coast of Fuerteventura. The view of the surrounding mountains and of the deep blue sea is truly breathtaking.

On reaching the remote bay you will find some greenery which stands out from the rest of the landscape here. Large, dark rocks protrude from the sea gradually changing into a large area of grey pebble beach. A deserted bunker can be seen at the back of the bay.

Swimming at Playa de Junquillo is not to be recommended, as there are high waves and strong currents, and the pebble beach itself is not very comfortable to lie on. However, the bay is an idyllic, romantic place to take a break on a cycling or walking trip. For those wanting to spend more time here, it is no problem to set up base here and enjoy nature far away from civilisation.
