Right in the north of Fuerteventura, the former fishing village of Corralejo has developed in the last decades into one of the most popular holiday resorts in Fuerteventura. Only recently the town centre was turned into a pedestrianised area and a lot of greenery was also planted to create a park-like atmosphere. You can walk along the beach promenade to get to the most popular beaches of Corralejo, which are Playa Waikiki, Playa Hoplaco, and Playa Tres Vistas.
Here there are numerous restaurants and bars, surfing and diving schools, as well as apartments, hotels and B&Bs which cater for all requirements. There is quite an international mixture of holidaymakers here, but it is becoming more and more popular with the British.
The nearby island of Los Lobos with its beautiful, wild, natural beach of La Concha can be reached easily by ferry in less than half an hour and is ideal for a day-trip. Furthermore, the strait between Corralejo and Los Lobos offers perfect conditions for windsurfing and diving.
Grandes Playas de Corralejo
South of Corralejo are the shifting sand dunes of Jable. This dune landscape extends for almost 10 kilometres along the coast and is the largest dune area of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands. It has been a conservation area since the 1980s. The fine, light-coloured sand consists of pulverised shells from sea snails and mussels. In places the dunes are over 10 metres high, separated only by flat lava ridges. The Grandes Playas de Corralejo beaches, which translates as the “large beaches of Corralejo”, are located in the dunes and are without doubt rightly considered as some of the nicest beaches in Fuerteventura because of their stunning setting. Especially recommended are the spacious Flag Beach and the beach of Tres Rios.
