El Hierro - Wild, natural bay in northern Fuerteventura
El Hierro is situated on the north coast of Fuerteventura, halfway between Cotillo and Corralejo. Situated in the middle of a sparsely vegetated and stony landscape, this wild, natural beach is very popular with water-sports enthusiasts.
The bright, sandy beach is scattered with some dark stones and rocks and the occasional wild bush can also be seen. The land in the background is flat and the remoteness of the beach means that most of the time there are only a few visitors here. Getting to the water is not very easy over the stony surface and swimming is not much fun and often quite dangerous because of the strong currents and high waves.
However, surfers and windsurfers can have a lot of fun here, providing they have a very high skill level to cope with the very demanding conditions at this bay. Kiting, however, is not possible at El Hierro. A big advantage for water-sports fans is that it is possible to park the car directly at the beach, making it much easier to carry equipment to the water.
