El Puertito on Isla de los Lobos - Ideal conditions for snorkelling
The bay of El Puertito is situated on the island of Los Lobos off the coast of Fuerteventura. It can be reached by ferry from the harbour town of Corralejo. On arrival on the island follow the signs until you reach the white houses of the small village of El Puertito.
Here you can expect crystal clear water and good conditions for snorkelling. Fishing boats can be spotted in the harbour ready for their next trip and El Puertito indeed means "small harbour" in Spanish. At the beach there is a wooden walkway, from various points of which you can get straight into the deep water at high tide. At low tide there are some areas where the water is even shallow enough for snorkelling for non-swimmers. Near the wooden walkway is a lagoon in which you can spot many fish and with a bit of luck even a Manta Ray.
At high tide lying on the beach is only possible on the volcanic rocks which surround the bay. At low tide, however, there is a large sandy area with even enough space to play football. There is also a restaurant at the walkway which offers typical local specialities. To be on the safe side, booking a table is recommended if you are planning to come here off-season, as there are not many visitors then and the restaurant is therefore often closed during the day on weekdays. El Puertito is also a good starting point to explore the surrounding bays of Isla de los Lobos. Diving and snorkelling are especially enjoyable here
