The holiday resort of Costa Calma is in the south of Fuerteventura at the narrowest part of the island and is surrounded by sand dunes. Costa Calma is especially popular with the Germans and many of the cafés, bars and restaurants here are run by Germans. All along the light-coloured, sandy beaches of Costa Calma there are many hotels to be found.
The large town beach of Costa Calma is bordered by other beaches which you can easily walk to. In the north you will find the northern bay of Costa Calma and in the south there is the southern bay of Costa Calma and also Playa Esmeralda and Playa Esmeralda South.
A special beach recommendation in Fuerteventura is Playa Sotavento which can be reached from Costa Calma in about 15 minutes by car. Depending on the tides, a very large lagoon appears at Playa Sotavento which makes this beach really stand out from the other beaches at Costa Calma. Playa Sotavento is also perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
