La Escalera (Playa del Aguila) - Beautiful, sandy beach, difficult to get to
La Escalera, also known as Playa del Aguila, is a sandy beach in Fuerteventura which is 600 metres in length. This spectacular bay is situated south of the town of Cotillo and can only be reached via a gravel road along the coast. It is best to follow the signs to Playa de Esquinzo. The beach is reached via an adventurous descent of some steep steps which gave the beach its name.
The bay is surrounded by enormous cliffs in a completely wild and natural landscape. The sea is clear and clean and the beach and the seabed consist mainly of sand. You can enjoy walks on this beautiful beach and at the same time admire the waves and the gleaming emerald green sea.
The favourable wind makes it an ideal and uncrowded spot for surfers of all abilities to have fun. Swimming conditions are basically good and access to the water is easy, as there are no stones or rocks in the way. There are no lifeguards here and, as with on many beaches in Fuerteventura, the sea can become very dangerous in certain conditions.
