Los Molinos - The beach at the small harbour of the windmills
The small village of Los Molinos, which is also known as El Puertito de los Molinos, is situated about 30 minutes away from La Ampuyenta on the west coast of Fuerteventura and can be reached via a good quality tarmac road. Los Molinos beach is to be found at the end of an almost completely dried out riverbed, surrounded by large cliffs. The huge waves here are very impressive and there is a large sandy area to lie on in the months of July and August, when swimming conditions are very good. However, the sea shows its rougher side during the other months of the year, when huge waves crash against the rocks and the currents are very strong. It is then too dangerous for swimming and the sea swallows up the sandy area until the following summer.
It is possible, though, to climb the cliffs all year round to enjoy the fantastic view and the beautiful sunset. In the nearby restaurant you can admire the crashing waves from a safe distance, while enjoying the typical local dishes.
