La Lajita - Beach of pebbles and sand by an idyllic fishing village
La Lajita beach, which is situated in the bay of the same name and right next to a cosy little fishing village, is situated about ten kilometres north of Costa Calma in Fuerteventura.
Palm trees adorn the black pebble beach and small fishing boats gently sway in the sea, ready for their next sailing. There are small cliffs on the either side of the bay which divide La Lajita into two areas, both covered mainly with blue shimmering pebbles, but there are also areas of black sand.
Above the beach a typical local restaurant serves fresh fish and other delicious local dishes. There is also a playground right next to it where the little ones can let off steam while the parents can keep a watchful eye on them. The village church, which can also been seen from the beach, rounds off the nice setting. As La Lajita is not one of the main tourist spots, it is mainly locals from the village to be seen at the beach.
Conditions are not really ideal for the perfect day's swimming as there are no lifeguards or showers to be found here. However, this is a romantic and idyllic place to spend a nice day, far away from the masses of tourists.
