La Pared - An extraordinary rocky landscape offering ideal surfing conditions
Playa La Pared is situated on the western coast of Fuerteventura. The place which gave its name to the beach is situated just above it. Bungalows, apartments, restaurants, surf schools and also a surf camp can be found here. The beach is also known as “Playa de Viejo Rey".
Reaching the beach from the car park requires a walk of about 10 minutes along a gravel and sandy path which in the heat can be somewhat exhausting. The walk leads through a beige-brown rocky landscape surrounding the bay and offering a breathtaking view over the western coast of Fuerteventura.
On arrival at the beach the wild and natural beauty of the environment is really enchanting. The rather surreal sandstone cliffs and the sound of the crashing waves make this place very special.
The fine sandy beach stretches for about 600 metres and at low tide can be walked in its entire length. At the northern end of the beach there are stone steps which makes it easier to access the beach, but which should only be used at low tide.
La Pared is frequented by a lot of surf schools for teaching purposes, as conditions for this are perfect and the high frequency of waves encourages non-stop surfing. However, due to the strong currents and high waves, this is not the most enjoyable of places for swimming. La Pared offers both surfers and nature lovers a spectacle of a special kind and is therefore very popular with tourists.
