If you would like to spend a day away from everybody else, then Playa de Ugán is an ideal place for this. The beach is hidden behind rocks and bushes and can only be reached by car by travelling for some time along a gravel road, which is why not many people come here. However, the scenery is picturesque and the view of the surrounding coast with its hilly landscape breathtaking. From here there is also a great view of Cofete. Great care has to be taken when swimming because of the strong currents.
Playa de Ugán - Hidden natural bay with strong currents
The remote and natural bay of Ugán is situated about six kilometres north of La Pared. The beach is well hidden behind cliffs and bushes and can only be reached via a rather bumpy gravel road. A wooden signpost showing the name of the beach points the way.
The sand is black and partly covered with stones. The waves crashing between the rocks provide quite a dramatic spectacle. When the weather is nice there is a great view of the Barlovento beach (Cofete) with its impressive hilly scenery. Unfortunately, swimming at Playa de Ugán can be rather dangerous because of the strong currents and great care has to be taken. Hardly any tourists or locals find their way here, meaning that you can enjoy a nice day here at the beach in complete solitude.
