Puerto Lajas - Black pebble beach near to the capital
Puerto Lajas is situated on the east coast of Fuerteventura, near to its capital of Puerto del Rosario. The beach consists entirely of black pebbles, which is unusual for Fuerteventura, the island of sand dunes. The pebbles occur naturally and extend right out into the sea.
The surface is pleasant to walk and lie on. Even when swimming there is no need to worry about hurting yourself as the pebbles are smooth and have no sharp edges. There is lots of room on the beach and swimming is pleasant, as there are hardly any waves.
In the front part of the sea you can swim undisturbed. Further out is a separate area for kite-surfing and windsurfing. There is also a small outlet here where you can hire appropriate equipment. Kayaking, stand-up paddling, catamaran sailing and surfing are also possible here.
In the background of this quiet bay are the mostly white houses of the village. Here you can also find nice bars where you can round off the day with delicious tapas, cocktails and music. Not many tourists find their way to Puerto Lajas and it is mainly frequented by the locals of the capital and the surrounding villages.
