Playa de Puerto Rico - Small bay with fine light sand
Playa de Puerto Rico is situated in the town of the same name in the south-west of the island of Gran Canaria. It is in the heart of a mountainous landscape where countless hotels have been constructed, and these have a considerable impact on the scenery. The beach is bordered on either side by stone breakwaters. The fine sand sparkles golden in the sunlight here.
At the pay and display car park you will find a supermarket and right behind it a small park. Then you come to a promenade that is at a slightly higher level than the beach. Here you can go for a delightful stroll and enjoy the sun. At beach level there is a second promenade with several shops selling beach equipment and beachwear. In addition, for a small charge you can use the public toilets and showers.
On the sands are numerous welcoming restaurants and beach bars. It’s mainly cocktails and fresh smoothies on the menus, alongside the Spanish and international dishes. Some of them throw in free wireless internet in a bid to attract your custom. There's nothing to stop you enjoying your meal on a beach lounger beneath a sun umbrella, if that's what you'd like. Even in peak season there are plenty of these available.
This is the perfect place for water sports enthusiasts. Whilst there is only one pedal boat hire operator at Playa de Puerto Rico, you can rent boats, test your sailing skills or go diving to explore the underwater world at the small adjacent harbour. You'll also find whale watching tours.
