Playa de Mogán is an artificially created beach situated in the south-west of the island of Gran Canaria. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, the sandy beach has incredible views in all directions. Looking out to sea you would practically think you are looking at a lake, the water lapping the gold-beige sand is so calm and clear. The bay is almost completely enclosed by the two breakwaters. The palm-fringed boulevard invites you to shop, feast and stroll. If you want a bit of action you can confidently drop in at the water sports centre and spend the day on a jet ski, a parasail or a banana boat.
Playa de Mogán - Artificially created bay with gold-beige sandPlaya de Mogán is situated in the town of the same name in the south-west of the island of Gran Canaria. Its location nestled in a mountainous landscape means that you will have a spectacular view here. The beach itself has been artificially created, so it doesn't have the dark sand typical of this island, but glows gold-beige in the sunlight. The bay is bordered on either side by stone breakwaters so the water is quite calm, giving you the impression of swimming in a lake rather than in the sea. The slope down into the water is very gentle and, since there are hardly any waves, you can simply lie in the clear water and enjoy the sun.
The beach has a promenade fringed with palms, inviting you to saunter along it with a superb view out to sea. Here you will find a children's play area, shops selling clothes and shoes, several restaurants and even a pharmacy. The gastronomic landscape features international food – there are Mexican, Italian and German restaurants, for instance – and Spanish tapas. There are both steps and ramps leading down onto the beach, so it is accessible for wheelchair users.
The water sports operator on the right-hand side of the beach can help to ensure that your day on the beach is both relaxed and active. Here you can hire pedal boats, kayaks and jet skis, look down on the sea from a parasail or test your strength on a banana boat. You can book any of these either individually or as a package for the whole day.
In the neighbouring harbour, just a few hundred metres from Playa de Mogán, you can also book whale and dolphin watching tours.
