Punta de las Carpinteras is the ideal retreat for outdoor types and naturalists, as it's one of Gran Canaria's truly natural and unspoiled beaches. So pack cool drinks and sandwiches because there are no bars or shops here. In exchange you can expect relaxation and tranquillity against a panoramic backdrop of cliffs that could even provide you with the opportunity to do some climbing. What's more, in the clear water of the bay you can use your own equipment for some fantastic snorkelling!

Punta de las Carpinteras - All-over tanning on relaxed natural beach

Punta de las Carpinteras is the ideal retreat for outdoor types and naturalists, as it's one of Gran Canaria's truly natural and unspoiled beaches. You won't find any chic bars or shops here, so pack cool drinks and a few sandwiches. In exchange you can expect relaxation and tranquillity against a panoramic backdrop of cliffs that could even provide you with the opportunity to do some climbing.

Be prepared for the winding road to Punta de las Carpinteras. In order to find the beach, you need to be very alert: after a sharp right hand bend a small access road turns off to the left. If you start going uphill again you've already missed it! From here on you are strongly advised to take extra care if you are driving a small or low chassis car: the edge of the access road is badly eroded and the unpaved car park is littered with potholes and loose stones.

The car park is above the beach and the walk down to the water is gravelly and quite a challenge for older or unsteady visitors, especially the last section, where there are no secure steps or handrail. Once you make it down to the beach, however, you will be rewarded with a truly impressive panorama that sweeps from the deep blue Atlantic round to the wild, romantic rocky landscape!

The beach crowd is really relaxed and open-minded, and in the separate little coves you can bathe and sunbathe nude. You can even bring your dog with you to the beach and romp in the waves with him. Sporty types can go snorkelling in the clear water and discover lots of fish and plants. Or you can climb from here to the end of the bay to catch a glimpse of the nearby beach, El Pajar, and its industrial harbour. If you're very daring you can even clamber along the coast to the next beach, Playa de Triana!
