Summary of the Beach Inspectors
Playa de Guayedra beach is not easy to get to. First there is a winding, unpaved road and at the end of this you then have to continue on foot. The only entrance is a small trampled path down the slopes at the southern end of the beach. Since there have been several landslides here already and a sign marks the area as inaccessible, it's up to each individual, whether or not to take the risk. The beach itself consists primarily of rocks and has very clear water.

Playa de Guayedra - Hard to reach stony beach

Playa de Guayedra is situated in the north of the island of Gran Canaria. The long but narrow stony beach lies right by a private property, which is surrounded by a fence, making it easily identifiable. The beach only has one entrance, situated at the southern end. If the stones get too uncomfortable you can just walk along by the fence. After a short while you come to a smaller section, which consists of brown sand - the size of the lounging area depends on the tide.

The water is very clear, especially in the stony section, and is good for snorkelling. You'll need to bring your own equipment though, since the beach is completely unspoiled and there are no shops, water sports operators or food outlets.

You can reach Playa de Guayedra along a winding road from the town of Puerto de las Nieves. An unpaved track with no crash barrier leads off from this road, with a steep drop down the mountain on one side. Inexperienced drivers should think twice about whether they want to travel the route by car. You have to park on a turning circle on the dirt track. From this point you continue on foot. After a few hundred metres you come to a sign that says, in Spanish, English and German, that the path is now no longer accessible. It's up to each individual, whether or not to take the risk. However you can see from the sign that there have been several landslides in the past.

If you're brave enough to make the trip to this beach despite the dangers, you can bank on a quiet day in a stunning mountain landscape with views of the harbour of Puerto de las Nieves. This is because very, very few tourists dare to come here.
