Summary of the Beach Inspectors

Not far at all from the tourist hustle and bustle of the well-known and popular large beaches of Gran Canaria, Playa de las Mujeres lies hidden behind the hills that separate the beach from the road. The small beach, with grey-brown sand and framed by rocks, is known and appreciated by locals as a place for spending a leisurely day with their friends and families. They barbecue, picnic and play football on the sand. Surfers and bodyboarders have fun in the water. Dogs are allowed on this completely unspoiled beach and in the neighbouring bay you can bathe nude.

Playa de las Mujeres - Small natural beach with grey-brown sand

In the south of Gran Canaria, just a few kilometres from the island's tourist strongholds, lies Playa de las Mujeres, a somewhat remote beach that receives little attention. There are no road signs to help you find it so you should take a navigation device or a smartphone and type in the coordinates. The main indicator that you've reached the beach is the other visitors' cars parked along the road. From here you have to walk across two hills, which are rocky underfoot in places and covered with gravel, so you need to pack sturdy shoes.

Once you get to Playa de las Mujeres a 100 metre long area of grey-brown sand awaits you, framed by rocky hills. Some of these rocks can also be found in the water at the edges of the beach. The beach is completely unspoiled - there is no development and no sanitary facilities or places to buy food. Playa de las Mujeres is known of and appreciated by locals in particular, who come here with their families and friends to relax, barbecue and picnic.

Occasionally you'll see tents, although camping it is not officially permitted. Dogs are allowed on the beach and can really let off steam here. Parents play football with their children on the sand and in the water little ones use the waves for bodyboarding. Older kids will find it a really good beginners' spot for surfing. In the neighbouring bay there is a popular nudist beach.
