Playa del Burrero - Versatile family beach with sports and bathing zonesPlaya del Burrero in the west of Gran Canaria is one of the more versatile of the less well-known town beaches. The fact that it is separated into bathing zones and water sports zones goes down well with visitors. It is equipped with numerous wooden platforms, where you can lie much more comfortably than on the other stony beaches on Gran Canaria. What's more, Playa del Burrero is really easy to find: you just follow the signs to the village of el Burrero. And if you happen to be taking off from the airport on your way home that evening, you can spend a wonderful beach day here, as El Burrero is less than ten kilometres from the airport.
You can park on the street free of charge, usually without a problem, since El Burrero normally attracts only locals. You need to bear in mind that there is a footpath of about 300 metres, which takes you onto the beach without a problem and is wheelchair accessible. Whilst the mixture of stone and sand will not suit everyone, the beach has spacious wooden platforms which are excellent for spreading yourself out on. And if you'd prefer to leave your beach shoes at home, on the left hand side of the bay you can simply jump straight into the water from the cliffs.
On the right hand side of the beach there are zones marked out for windsurfers, surf-riders and bodyboarders, so that novices in these sports or unconfident swimmers can use their specific area without worrying. The clear layout of the beach attracts a lot of families. Unfortunately there are no sports operators here, so don't forget your equipment!
And if you get hungry, we recommend the Terraza Club Náutico el Burrero. This small, modern restaurant is right on the promenade and will serve you freshly caught fish and local cuisine. From here you have a good view of the spacious architecture of Playa del Burro and can watch the activity around you undisturbed.
