Summary of the Beach Inspectors

Just getting to Playa de Tasarte along the winding road is an adventure in itself, but it's definitely worth making the trip to this unspoiled stony beach in the west of Gran Canaria. Not only can you enjoy freshly caught fish in the long-established restaurant, 'Oliva', you're bound to feel at home here very quickly. It's mainly the open and communicative locals that make Playa de Tasarte something quite special!

Playa de Tasarte - Family restaurant on an undisturbed stony beach

Just getting to Playa de Tasarte is an adventure in itself. The winding road in the west of Gran Canaria leads you from the GC-500 along GC-1 and then GC-200 and GC-205 through an impressive rocky landscape. Unfortunately, the nearer you get to your destination the worse the road conditions get. The beach is also signposted at a bus stop on the right and essentially it's hard to miss.

As soon as you arrive at the unpaved car park you have a fantastic view of the steep cliffs that surround Playa de Tasarte. As on all the natural beaches on Gran Canaria, you should wear sturdy shoes here. When you get to the water you find yourself on a wonderfully secluded and clean stony beach. The beach is rather unsuitable for bathing because the water’s edge is stony and tricky to negotiate, but with beach shoes it is possible in principle.

Further to the right in the bay there is also a good spot for fishing, as attested by the fresh fish dishes at 'Oliva'. This long-established restaurant serves delicious local specialities and you can enjoy a beautiful view of the bay from the terrace. Near the beach there are some caves and secluded beaches that can only be reached by boat. Feel free to ask the restaurant owner, who offers a small shuttle service. It's worth the trip because you will come across some fantastic caves and possibly even dolphins!

We find that the people are what make Playa de Tasarte special. The intimate restaurant attracts a friendly and open-minded crowd. The other visitors are all locals or dog lovers who like to spend a relaxing afternoon here and are happy to chat with you. As an international visitor you'll always be welcome here and we're sure it won't be long before you feel like a local!
