  1. General information

On Playa del Inglés you will find not only one of the most diverse beaches in Europe, but also a pulsating tourist stronghold with a unique character. The beaches here in the San Bartolomé de Tirajana district are really colourful and so are the beach crowds! From the end of the season in September until spring, the beach is firmly in the hands of the long-term visitors: fit travellers over sixty, who are keen to exchange the gloomy winters in Germany, Britain or Scandinavia for sun, sea and sand. From early summer onwards the innumerable sports on offer, the balmy nights beneath the starry heavens and the huge selection of restaurants attract young couples in particular. On top of that, the nightlife here at Playa del Inglés is quite unique. As a true Mecca of the gay and lesbian scene, the electric atmosphere in the clubs and the Yumbo bars and lounges, where young people from all over the world rock to the hot beats, has been hard to match for over 25 years. The season opener is Maspalomas Pride, a two week long party in the Yumbo and the open air, for which the tickets sell out months in advance on the LGBT scene. You can celebrate the arrival of summer exuberantly along with more than 100,000 others!

However, the beaches round about Playa del Inglés are much more than just a party venue. The hotel and apartment complexes here are mainly geared towards families, the restaurants cater for the needs of children and the prices are moderate. Playa de San Agustín and Playa de las Burras are more compact alternatives to the very long beach of Playa del Inglés and are right next door. And in fact Playa del Inglés itself has quieter corners, especially the less developed area near the dunes, where neither shops nor crowds will disturb your day at the beach! And if you'd rather settle down with a book somewhere closer to the shops, you'll always be able to find a quiet spot and a beach lounger beyond the promenade, on the far left hand edge of the beach. This is also the best place to wait for the sunset, as it will begin over the escarpment behind you, bathing the retreating sea in liquid gold. A once in a lifetime holiday memory!
