Playa del Cardón - Natural leisure with a family-friendly beach crowd
The secluded sandy beach of Playa del Cardón in the south-east of Gran Canaria, close to Castillo del Romeral is slightly off the beaten track, it's true. However, it is quite easy to find, as you can see the beach from the main road. Here you will find sufficient space for parking, even though there’s no paved car park. Nature lovers in particular should note that you can hardly hear the noise of the traffic on the beach, mainly because of the wind.
The stony beach is at least 1.5 kilometres long, and because it's so quiet and isolated, it mainly attracts locals with their motor homes. Camping is not officially allowed here on the beach, but is evidently tolerated, as it is a favourite destination for families with caravans and motor homes, particularly at the weekend. The same applies to the ban on dogs, which the locals don't take very seriously. As a result some areas of the beach are rather dirty. You should bring your bathing shoes with you in any case, as the approach to the water is stony and therefore slightly uncomfortable. During your visit to the beach you will have to put up with a lot of wind, but this has prompted previous visitors to created numerous small wind breaks by piling up stones, and you can tuck yourself away in these. You will find plenty of privacy to add to your enjoyment of your day at the beach, which is appreciated by naturists especially. In fact, this completely natural beach is perfectly suited to nudists!
Although you'll have to manage without bars and entertainment here on Playa del Cardón, you will find instead a laid-back and family-friendly beach crowd, plus plenty of room to relax on this typically long Gran Canarian beach.
