Playa de Medio Almud
Playa de Medio Almud lies in the west of Gran Canaria, close to the town of Puerto Rico. Nature lovers will feel particularly at home in this little cove of stones, pebbles and rocks. You can happily leave your swimming trunks at home, as this beach is well-known and popular amongst naturists. Instead, though, you do need to pack bathing shoes, because the stones can be slippery and sharp. But there is a plus side to the stones and rocks - they provide a bit of privacy and shade.

Playa de Medio Almud - Small stony cove with a bit of privacy

In the west of the island of Gran Canaria you will find the completely natural beach of Playa de Medio Almud. It lies hidden amongst the mountains close to the town of Puerto Rico. Nonetheless, it is easy to find. Although there is a road running right down to the beach, you will need to park in a small car park on the main street. The barrier there tends to be closed, so you have to continue on foot. The walk takes about ten minutes and the last few metres are a bit tricky. This is because the road becomes a steeply sloping gravel track where you could easily slip.

Playa de Medio Almud consists of pebbles, large stones and rocks. The latter provide shady spots and hideaways on both sides of the cove. In addition, a few metres from the water someone has made a pile of stones, which can also protect you from the wind and from intrusive onlookers.

The beach is completely unspoiled. You'll find neither toilets and showers, nor eateries where you can go if you’re hungry or thirsty. So you need to have everything with you for your day at the beach. You should have bathing shoes in your bag as well, as it can be slippery getting down to the water on the stones, which are sharp in places. Swimming trunks, on the other hand, you can confidently leave behind in the hotel, as this beach is well-known and popular amongst naturists.
