Caló des Moro - Tiny town beach near the Café del Mar
In a flat rock plateau right at the tip of a bay, a tiny, grainy-sandy beach has formed, going by the name of Caló des Moro. It is situated at the north-west outskirts of San Antonio, the most important holiday resort on the west coast of Ibiza. The beach is surrounded by large hotels, in which mostly young, party-loving Brits spend their holidays. Its location in the town means that Caló des Moro can easily be reached by car and parking spaces can be found in the streets nearby.
At the one end of the beach a large wooden terrace covers the rocks. You can spread out and relax here, or on one of the few sun-loungers on the sand. Although the music played by the DJs next to the nearby hotel pools can be heard at the beach, Caló des Moro is not that hectic considering its location. Here there are also lifeguards, showers, toilets and activities such as jet-skis, banana boats and diving tours in the bay. Just behind the beach is a small café serving homemade ice cream and fresh milkshakes.
The promenade of San Antonio, which surrounds the town centre and leads past the world famous Café del Mar, begins at Caló des Moro. Since 1980 the café has been attracting its guests, who can watch the sun setting over the sea while listening to quiet, relaxing music. The café became famous worldwide because of the music which has been made into a series of compilations.
