You will find three beach areas catering for every taste on the white sand of Dolphinarium Beach in the heart of the exciting metropolis of Tel Aviv. In the so-called “surfing zone” the local surfing school teaches you the most important basics with which you can then tackle the waves. Moreover, you will see many children in the water, since there are special surfing camps organised for the kids in the summer months. In the middle of the beach in the “swimming zone” you will find many families splashing about with their small children, as the water here is especially shallow and therefore ideally suited to carefree paddling. The third area, on the other hand, is not suitable for swimming because of its strong currents. This makes this part of the beach ideal for relaxed sunbathing on one of the many sun- loungers available to you.
Dolphinarium Beach - The beach with many faces
The Dolphinarium Beach in the heart of Tel-Aviv, which is also called Banana Beach or Aviv Beach by the locals, is popular with young and old. The sand here is fine and white and the sea turquoise-blue, and although the beach lies in the middle of the city, it is kept very clean. Depending on what you want, there are three beach areas offering different things to do.
Surfing, swimming, sunbathing
The southern area is ideally suited to surfers. In summer you will see mostly children and teenagers here from the local surf school’s surfing camp. The conditions are ideal for beginners because the waves are only moderately high and the water is shallow. Advanced surfers also enjoy coming to this beach to have a gentle ride on the waves. The surfing club offers courses for varying abilities and in summer there are even surf camps organised for children. If you already know what you are doing, then you can also rent a surfboard. If there are no waves, as an alternative there are SUP boards on-site.
You will find many families in the middle area of Dolphinarium Beach. This area is reserved for swimmers which is why parents like to splash about in the water here with their children. You can also stay active outside the water, as there is a beach volleyball court here and several pieces of exercise equipment which are often occupied by locals who want to strengthen their muscles.
The third area of the popular beach is especially good for the sun worshippers amongst you. You are not allowed to go into the water here due to the strong current, but instead you can hire one of the numerous sun-loungers and parasols and just relax with a cold drink or reading a book.
In a relatively central position on the beach is the Banana Beach restaurant, which gave the beach one of its nicknames. The restaurant offers regional dishes such as shakshuka or hummus. For that true holiday feeling you can of course enjoy these while you have your feet in the sand, as most of the tables are directly on the beach. You can find an affordable alternative to this relatively expensive restaurant on the road behind the beach promenade.
Furthermore, along the beach promenade you will find a popular venue for Tel Aviv’s nighttime party scene: The Clara Beach Bar. During the summer months there are daily parties here which are enjoyed by both locals and holidaymakers alike.
