Baan Kai Beach - Popular kitesurfing spot in the lively Phangan quarterMost beaches of Phangan are generally fairly small, but this is not true of Baan Kai Beach which is the longest on the island, with a length of four kilometres. Here you will see mainly kitesurfers and young people who like to stay near the popular party hotspot.
It is easy to get to the beach, as it is situated directly behind the main road. However, on the beach you will not hear any traffic noise and it is nice and quiet.
Walking along the beach you will notice that the southern part is more remote, with undisturbed nature around its many small bays, while the hotel complexes and restaurants are to be found in the centre and the north.
You will mainly see young people here who want to spend some relaxed days in one of the beach clubs. If you are not into relaxation, then you can look for some action on the water and there are a number of water-sports options at Baan Kai Beach and kitesurfing is especially popular here.
Especially in the winter months it is very windy at Baan Kai and the kitesurfers re-emerge and throw themselves into the waves. Those without kitesurfing experience are well looked after here at the small surfing school in the middle of the beach, where you can book taster lessons and complete courses.
If you prefer things a little quieter, then you can perhaps try stand-up paddling or kayaking if the water is calm enough. From April onwards swimming is not very pleasant here, as the tides are rather extreme on this side of the island.
